How Does Your Health Measure Up?
Math: some people enjoy it, some people hate it. But did you know that math can actually contribute to your health and wellbeing?
Your health can be measured mathematically on a Health Risk Assessment scale, pinpointing where your health ranks among that of your peers. An HRA is calculated based on a series of responses to questions about your current health status, your medical history, family medical history and lifestyle.
E.ON U.S. employees, retirees and their spouses can complete an HRA after attending a 2007 WellFair. Active employees who do so are eligible to receive $100, along with the chance to win one of three $1,000 awards. This offer is part of the company's 2007 ChooseWell incentive, to further support the health and wellbeing of employees.
The Health Risk Assessment Process
An HRA falls within a range of 0 to 200 points. Your score varies depending on your peer group - users of a certain age range and gender. Below is a sample health assessment report, provided by WebMD:

In the sample above, the person scored 124 out of 200, but was below average for his peer group. This indicates that his health risks are greater than those of the relative population. In this instance, the person would receive his report with suggestions on how he can improve his health through lifestyle changes and preventive health care.
"The Health Risk Assessment can help someone who is or may be at risk for certain diseases or health-related problems," said Barbara Hawkins, Manager, Corporate Health and Safety. "While the HRA can't change your family history or past health conditions, it can suggest how to manage your health and work toward wellness. It also indicates if a person is doing well within his or her peer group and on a healthy path."
