Celebrating Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day – Meet Mark W

March 12, 2024

We appreciate all our natural gas operations employees for their dedication to making sure our customers receive safe and reliable natural gas service. In recognition of National Natural Gas Utility Workers’ Day on March 18, we wanted to share a little about one of our own.

MarkWallace
Employee: Mark W
Title: Gas field coordinator
Years of service: 17 years at LG&E (13 years in Gas Operations)

What are some of your typical duties?

I wear many different hats in my role as a gas field coordinator, but I primarily coordinate scheduled and emergency construction projects, serve as a liaison with our field employees, and investigate and resolve customer issues. I also conduct field audits to ensure specific safe work practices are followed. Working with natural gas can be dangerous, and one of my priorities is safety. It's not only about performing my job duties safely but also making sure I contribute to the safety of others, whether it's for my peers/co-workers or our customers.

What do you like best about your job?

I love the genuine camaraderie within our group as well as within LG&E as a company. I work with knowledgeable, supportive and hardworking people, and I am proud of the work that we do together for our customers.

What is something most people don't know about the job?

We are dedicated to providing safe, reliable service to our customers in all types of weather conditions, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It's common for us to be called away from our homes at all hours of the day and night in response to customers' needs. And we are always ready for whatever the job entails.

Mark also was featured in LG&E's February issue of Power Source, the customer newsletter.
