Ready to weather spring’s storms?

February 20, 2024

Around these parts, the arrival of spring means more than just warming temps and blooming blossoms. It also brings potentially severe weather that can cause power outages and property damage. We’ve worked hard over the years to significantly strengthen its electrical system, but there are also steps you can take to help weather the spring storms.

Be sure to prepare an emergency kit, including:

  • A first-aid kit (including any prescription medications)
  • Water and nonperishable food
  • Battery-powered chargers for cell phones
  • Flashlights
  • A battery-operated weather radio. We recommend a NOAA Weather Radio which allows you to get weather warnings
  • Extra batteries

Stay safe when severe weather hits:

  • Always avoid downed power lines. If you see one, alert us by calling our automated phone system and follow the prompts.
  • If your power goes out, turn off appliances but leave a light switch on so you’ll know when power is restored.
  • Never use a corded phone during a storm.
  • Never take a bath or shower during a storm.
  • Have a safe place to go in case there is an extended power outage.
  • Keep at least half a tank of gas in your car.

And if you haven’t already, be sure to download our free mobile app, where – among other things – you can easily report and receive updates on power outages. Download the app or search “LG&E KU ODP” in app stores.

Need another way to report an outage? Simply text OUTAGE to 4LGEKU (454358). Text STATUS to get updates.
