LG&E and KU launch new Home Energy Rebates Program

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company now offer home energy rebates to help offset the costs of making energy efficient upgrades around the home.
Through the launch of its Home Energy Rebates Program, LG&E and KU are targeting customers who plan to make specific appliance and product upgrades in an effort to make these energy efficient purchases more affordable.
Up to 70 percent of home energy use may be attributed to heating, cooling and appliances. Now, customers don't have to wait for Black Friday discounts to make their homes more energy efficient.
Home energy rebates range from $50 to $300 for various ENERGY STAR®-qualified appliances, as well as qualified window film and high-efficiency HVAC systems.
Rebates are available for the following items:
| ENERGY STAR® Heat pump water heater | $300 |
| ENERGY STAR® Refrigerator | $100 |
| ENERGY STAR® Clothes washer | $75 |
| ENERGY STAR® Freezer | $50 |
| ENERGY STAR® Dishwasher | $50 |
| Qualified Window Film | Up to 50 percent of material costs; a maximum of $200 (Labor not included) |
| Central air conditioner | $100, plus an additional $100 for every SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) unit greater than the federal minimum high-efficiency standard |
| Air-source heat pump | $100, plus an additional $100 for every SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) unit greater than the federal minimum high-efficiency standard |
To ensure an appliance is ENERGY STAR® qualified, check for the ENERGY STAR® logo. A full list of ENERGY STAR® appliances and products is available at www.energystar.gov.
How to Apply
Customers can sign in to My Account to start a rebate application online or call 1-800-356-5467.
Customers must complete a rebate application and submit their proof of purchase, which is a valid store receipt including purchase date, model number and complete purchase information. Once a rebate application is approved, a rebate check will be mailed within four weeks.
Did you already purchase a qualifying appliance or product during last year's Black Friday sales? Qualified appliances and products purchased after November 9, 2011 are eligible for rebates.
LG&E and KU residential electric customers may apply for a set number of rebates within each category during a 12-month period, and a maximum number of rebates per category per customer account.

Fridge and Freezer Recycling Program
Purchasing an ENERGY STAR® refrigerator or freezer? Apply for your rebate - and earn an additional $30 by scheduling an appointment to have LG&E and KU haul away and properly recycle your old, working refrigerator or freezer.
The Home Energy Rebates Program and the Fridge and Freezer Recycling Program are part of the LG&E and KU expanded Energy Efficiency portfolio approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission in November 2011 to offer residential and commercial customers more options to reduce and better manage their energy use.
The portfolio of Customer Energy Efficiency programs has the ability to reduce 500 megawatts of demand by 2018 if customers take advantage of these programs. To learn more, visit lge-ku.com/savingenergy.
